Privacy Policy for Basate

Effective date: August 26, 2026

Basate ("the app", "we", "us") is developed by Mohammed Qasim. This policy explains what information Basate touches, why, and what happens to it. We wrote it to match exactly what the app does — nothing more.

No accountBasate has no sign-up, login, or user profile of any kind.
No trackingWe don't use analytics, advertising, or behavioral-tracking SDKs.
Data stays localYour notes, favourites, and settings are stored only on your device.
Location isn't storedUsed live to center the map, then discarded — never saved or sent to us.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Location

If you allow it, Basate reads your device's precise or approximate location (Android: ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION; iOS: "While Using the App") to center the map on you and help you find your nearest bus stop. This happens live, on your device. Basate does not store your location history, does not send it to our servers — we don't operate any — and does not share it with any third party. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; the rest of the app keeps working without it.

1.2 Content you create

Notes, favourite places, saved bus lines, your chosen language, and display preferences are saved using local on-device storage (Hive and shared preferences). This content never leaves your device automatically. If you uninstall the app or clear its storage, it is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered by us, because we never had a copy of it.

1.3 Feedback you choose to send

The in-app Feedback tool lets you annotate a screenshot and a short note. Basate then hands that screenshot and note to your device's own share sheet so you can send it — typically by email to basateapp@gmail.com — through an app of your choosing. Basate itself does not upload or transmit this for you; nothing is sent unless you complete that share/send step yourself. If you do email us, we receive whatever your mail app sends (your email address, the screenshot, and your note) and use it only to fix the issue or respond to you.

1.4 Information we do not collect

We do not collect your name, phone number, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, browsing history, or any advertising identifiers. We do not require or create user accounts.

2. Third-Party Services

Basate uses a small number of external services to function. We don't control what these providers collect; each is linked below so you can review their own policies.

ServiceWhat it's used forWhat it may see
Google Maps Platform Draws the map and bus routes on screen. To load map tiles, the Google Maps SDK sends device and network information (such as device identifiers, IP address, and app version) directly to Google, and — only if you've granted the permission — your approximate or precise location, so the map can center on you. This goes straight from your device to Google; Basate does not see or store it. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Fonts Loads the typefaces used in the app's interface. Basic request data (such as IP address) when a font is fetched, per Google Fonts' privacy FAQ.

We do not use Firebase, advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or crash-reporting services, and Basate contains no in-app purchases.

3. How We Use Information

The little information that does reach us — an email you choose to send, feedback you choose to share — is used only to respond to you, fix bugs, or consider a route request. We do not sell, rent, or trade any information, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Data Retention

Content stored on your device (notes, favourites, saved lines, settings) persists until you delete it, clear the app's storage, or uninstall Basate. We retain support emails you send us only as long as needed to resolve your request, then delete them in the normal course of mailbox housekeeping.

5. Children's Privacy

Basate is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app requires no account and stores content only locally, we have no practical way to identify a user's age — if you believe a child has provided us information via email, contact us and we'll delete it.

6. Your Choices

7. Security

Because your content stays on your device rather than on a server we run, its security largely follows your device's own protections (lock screen, encryption, OS updates). We recommend keeping your device and the app up to date.

8. Changes to This Policy

If Basate's data practices change — for example, if we later add optional cloud backup — we'll update this page and revise the effective date above. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
